Well, I absolutely burned through the tail end of that season...

NiB was right when he said that the individual episodes of S6 are better than the arc, because they are. There's nothing exactly wrong with the arc. It's better than most series can manage but it's terrible for a Whedon arc (don't highlight this until you've watched the season, Aran):



- Buffy is resurrected from what we learn is a Heavenly dimension, then spends the entire season struggling with and hating her life until literally 5 minutes before the end of the season final

- Willow & Tara break up for the whole season after Willow gets addicted to magic. She goes cold turkey and everyone supports her rehab. She finally gets back together with Tara in episode 18 and then in the next fucking episode Tara dies. Consumed by grief, Willow goes on a rampage and replaces The Trio (who have been built up for 19 episodes as a credible threat) as the end-of-season bossfight.

- Xander & Anya are engaged all season and spend a lot of time regretting it before ultimately cancelling the wedding at the altar in episode 16 (sense a trend emerging here?)

- Giles leaves in the 8th episode so Buffy can stand on her own two feet, only to return in the season final because "he should never have abandoned her" :tat:



About the only characters that finish the season with any positive developments at all are Dawn & Spike. The former because she finally grows up, and the latter because it's Spike and he's fucking awesome.

So to summarise, the arc is fucking meaningless but it creates a lot of cool scenarios along the way.

Best episodes:

7 - Once More, With Feeling (musical episode)
8 - Tabula Rasa (amnesia episode)
17 - Normal Again (mindfuck episode)
18 ~ 22 - Entropy, Seeing Red, Villains, Two to Go, Grave (where the arc finally gets good)

So yeah, that's 8 decent episodes out of 22 = 3.6/10
